The Overhead Press. My First Sticking Point.

… I’m now on week 5 of Mehdi’s Stronglifts 5 x 5 system.

So far so good. I’ve been chugging long beautifully. The exercises are simple, short and yet SUPER effective.

My squat is coming along excellently and even my bench press is good. I’m no longer suffering the shoulder pain I was before.

I have however found (just as Mehdi states in the 5×5 system) that I’m really starting to struggle with the overhead press. At the rate I’m going it will definitely be the first exercise I stall on. I caught myself ‘half cheating’ on my last workout. I found I was using my legs to help clear the weight towards the end and had to remind myself to make sure that ONLY the shoulders were doing the work.

As usual, when I got home I did some research to help combat the problem. The Stronglifts 5 x 5 site has some really good information, but for some reason I felt I just needed another perspective.

I landed on Justin’s site and he provided some good solid advice which I’ll be applying on my next workout:

On a seperate note …

Stronglifts 5 x 5 WORKS! I’ve noticed a real visible change in my appearance. Although I haven’t taken a recent body fat measurement I’ve definitely lost belly fat!

Just looking down at myself I can see I’m much leaner and I can actually see the beginnings of six pack abs on the upper part of my torso (there is still a bit of a bulge on the lower half).

As soon as I get a chance I’ll either shoot a video or post some photoes.
