A little while ago I stumbled upon a leverage point that could boost your weight loss efforts. In it I spoke about borrowing from the “theory of constraints” and applying the concept to weight loss. While everyone is focusing on reducing calorie intake or increasing exercise you could boost your fat burning capability by something as simple as improving the efficiency of your organs, particularly your liver.
It is a well known fact that the liver becomes clogged over time resulting in a very sluggish metabolism meaning your body doesn’t burn fat efficiently due to interference from the various toxins is has to deal with before it can even get a chance to get round to the fat. This means that not only do you not burn fat already accumulated, but you actually accumulate even more!
The truth of the matter is that your body has been accumulating and storing toxins in your fat cells and nervous system for years! Mike Geary recently hit me up with some statistics that paint a really bleak picture when it comes toxins in our foods.
For instance, the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) conducted a program called the National
Human Adipose Tissue Survey (NHATS). In 1982 and
again in 1987 it analyzed human fat samples from
cadavers obtained throughout the country, looking
for the types of toxins that accumulate in human
Four industrial solvents and one dioxin were
found in 100 percent of the fat samples.
NOTE: Dioxins have been shown to cause
reproductive and developmental problems, damage
the immune system, interfere with hormones and
also cause cancer.
Nine more chemicals, including three more dioxins
and one furan (which has been shown to cause bile
duct cancer in rats and liver cancer in mice)
were found in more than 90 percent of the fat
In general, 83 percent of the fat samples
contained PCBs (another cancer-causing agent
commonly found in our world today).
It’s really scary shit, but if you consider modern food processing methods it’s not unexpected. Consider the fact that a normal free range takes about 16 weeks to reach full maturity (didn’t want to say till it’s ripe, that just sounds plain wrong!). Now, consider that a commercial ‘battery’ chicken takes half the time, about 8 weeks from chick to fully grown.
Doesn’t that ring any bells? The truth is that it’s the same with other sources of our modern day diets. Cattle are now pumped up with growth hormone, which makes it’s way into by products such as milk e.t.c. Heck, even our fruit and vegetables are fed so many different types of chemicals that end up in YOUR plate!
So, hopefully you can see how much toxins your are accumulating in your body over time. I won’t even get into air pollution and other sources of yet more toxins in your system.

Well the trick is based on research that has been conducted surrounding the topic of brown fat. Apparently we have two types of fat in our bodies. The normal fat referred to as white fat (though personally I think it’s more yellowish than white) and brown fat. Higher amount of brown fat are found in babies and animals that live in cold environments.
The theory is that brown fat is loaded with mitochondria (the little engines that produce energy) hence it’s brown colour. This fat actually boosts metabolism and burns white fat. That’s why babies start of really chubby but soon lose the baby fat.
Unfortunately, when you reach adulthood you lose most of your brown fat and what little you have never gets activated. The five second trick involves activating the little brown fat you have left (mostly around your back, shoulders and chest). You activate this fat by exposing it to a low temperature so it has to start burning white fat to maintain your body heat. This is achieved by a simple 5 second cold shower!
